Ruling coalition meeting on power sharing ends inconclusively

A meeting of the ruling coalition focused on seat distribution among coalition partners has ended inconclusively.

The meeting was attended by top leaders of the ruling coalition and members of a task force led by Nepali Congress leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday.

However, task force coordinator Sitaula did not attend in the meeting.

Supreme Court quashes all writ petitions filed against Public Service Commission

The Supreme Court has rejected all writ petitions filed against the Public Service Commission in relation to civil service applications.

A Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court dismissed all the petitions filed against the Public Service Commission based on vacancies opened for government service.

With the dismissal of the writs, the Supreme Court has paved the way for Public Service Commission to hold the public service examinations that has been stalled for a long time.

Govt forms High Level Salary Facilitation Commission

The government has decided to form a High Level Salary Facilitation Commission.

Minister of Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, who is also the government spokesperson, said that it has been decided to form a High Level Salary Facilitation Commission under the coordination of former chief secretary Leelamani Paudel.

Likewise, the government has promoted Joint Secretary Narayan Prasad Sharma Duwadi to Secretary.

Govt resumes transit visa service to passengers bound to third countries via Nepali airports

The government has resumed transit visa service after a hiatus of around 16 months.

Foreigners travelling to other countries via Nepal’s international airports are now able obtain transit visa on arrival at airports. Passengers will be able to get out of the airport and spend a night with the transit visa.

Passengers not intending to leave the airport during their transit, however, do not need this visa.

The Nepal transit visa service was suspended on April 26, 2021, after many Indians misused the provision to fly to Saudi Arabia, which they were not allowed to from their own country amidst COVID-19 crisis.

MeroShare App now available on iPhone

MeroShare App is now available on iPhone as well.

The Central Depository System (CDS) and Clearing Limited has availed the app in the apple store, following which, iPhone users can now down the app from the store and use as per their necessity.

Previous, the app was available for Android phone only.

Possibilities of alliance with Maoist Center and other leftist parties over: UML

The CPN-UML has said there remained no possibility of electoral coordination with the CPN-Maoist Center and other left parties in the November 20 elections and the party would go to the polls alone.

Prithvi Subba Gurung, chief of UML Publicity Department, said the meeting of the UML Standing Committee held at the party central office on Tuesday decided that the chances of forging coordination with the Maoists in the election was over.

FNTTE urges government to adjust petro prices for festivals

The Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs-FNNTE has demanded the government adjust the prices of the petroleum products on the eve of the festivals.

Issuing a press statement today urged the government to ensure a respite to the people at festival times as they are hit hard by the skyrocketing prices of petroleum products.

The Federation wants the government to slash the petro prices in line its falling prices in the international market.

Nepal sees 634 new coronavirus cases, one death in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 634 new cases of coronavirus and one death in the past 24 hours as of Tuesday.

Of the confirmed cases, 343 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 291 through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 4,949 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

Of them, 2,757 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 2,192 through the Antigen method.

NEPSE gains marginal 1.85 points on Tuesday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index gained marginal 1.85 points to close at 2,054.98 points on Tuesday.

The index opened at 2,053.35 points, made an intraday high of 2,060.21 followed by an intraday low of 2,048.80 points and ultimately closed at 2,054.98 points. The index had lost 7.41 points on Monday.

A total of 4,031,025 shares of 222 companies traded hands via 27,202 transactions, resulting in a turnover of Rs 1.33 billion. Monday’s turnover was of Rs 1.72 billion.

BoK and Himalayan Bank receive full amount of bank guarantee from Chinese Bank

Bank of Kathmandu (BoK) and Himalayan Bank Limited (HBL) have finally received full amount against the guarantee paid for the Melamchi water supply project.

BoK and HBL had filed legal action against China Railway 15th Bureau Group to recoup Rs 1.6 billion in counter-guarantee funds from China Construction Bank (CCB).

After hearing the case, the High People’s Court of Henan Province, in favor of the two Nepali banks, instructed the CCB to give HBL and BoK their performance guarantee and advance payment guarantee, respectively.

Senior Advocate Gandi Pandit confirmed the developments in the case to Khabarhub, stating that BoK and HBL had finally received the counter guarantees they had initially paid for the Melamchi project.
