KATHMANDU: A delegation led by President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) Ahmed bin Muhammad Al Jarwan called on President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the President’s Office, Shital Niwas, on Tuesday.
On the occasion, House of Representatives (HoR) member Hridayesh Tripathi, members of the delegation affiliated with various organizations of eight countries and parliamentarians, and high-ranking officials of the Government of Nepal were also present.
Monday only, GCT President Al Jarwan and Speaker of Nepal Parliament Agni Prasad Sapkota witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two sides at the headquarters of the Parliament in Kathmandu in the interest of strengthening cooperation and bilateral relations and laying out a framework for future cooperation between them.

During a meeting with the Speaker Sapkota, Al-Jarwan reviewed the efforts exerted by the GCTPC to support the values and culture of love, peace and tolerance around the world.
He gave an explanation about the most important initiatives and projects that the council participates in activating in various countries of the world with the aim of promoting peaceful coexistence and tolerance.
He praised the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal and its various institutions for being an original model in supporting efforts to spread a culture of peace, peaceful coexistence and tolerance in various countries of the world.
Speaker Sapkota welcomed GCTP President Al Jarwan and praised what was stated in the memorandum of understanding regarding laying the foundations for cooperation with the GCTP and its various organs, praising at the same time the Council’s tireless efforts in supporting the values and culture of peace, coexistence and tolerance in various countries of the world from through diplomacy, dialogue, parliamentary action and international cooperation.
Sapkota expressed his country’s happiness to be part of this distinguished global effort, since peace and tolerance have become an indispensable global necessity. He expressed his aspiration to transfer his country’s experience to the world and said: “We are always open to cooperation with you.”
For his part, Al-Jarwan stressed that the GCTP and its various bodies continue to work on establishing strong partnerships with various local parliaments in various countries of the world, international organizations of the United Nations and civil society, in order to achieve the main objectives of the Council of supporting a culture of tolerance and peace around the world.
He said, “I look forward to holding a future session in the Nepalese parliament, similar to the sessions held by the parliament in Malta, Albania, Ethiopia, Argentina, Costa Rica, Colombia, Comoros, Montenegro, the United Arab Emirates and recently in Morocco.”
The signing of the MoU was attended by Saeed Hamdan Al Naqbi, UAE Ambassador to Nepal, Dr. Zoran Alevsky, Adviser to the GCTP President HE Mohamed Sabari, First Deputy Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives, Dubravka Filipovsky, Member of the National Assembly of Serbia, and HE Hussein Mohamed Latif, Member The Parliament of the Maldives, Dylan Pereira, Member of Parliament of Sri Lanka, Bojan Glavicek, Member of the Croatian Parliament, as well as a group of Nepali Parliamentarians.
In conclusion, Al-Jarwan presented the Speaker of the Nepalese Parliament with the shield of the GCTP in appreciation of the role of Parliament and its various committees in supporting equality, human dignity, peaceful coexistence, peace and tolerance.
