KATHMANDU: The government has resumed transit visa service after a hiatus of around 16 months.
Foreigners travelling to other countries via Nepal’s international airports are now able obtain transit visa on arrival at airports. Passengers will be able to get out of the airport and spend a night with the transit visa.
Passengers not intending to leave the airport during their transit, however, do not need this visa.
The Nepal transit visa service was suspended on April 26, 2021, after many Indians misused the provision to fly to Saudi Arabia, which they were not allowed to from their own country amidst COVID-19 crisis.
Tourism entrepreneurs had long been demanding scrapping the suspension.
Government Spokesperson Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said the cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to resume transit visa service.
