To finalize candidates for metropolises and sub metropolises

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) is holding a meeting of its Central Work Execution Committee (CWEC) to finalize the candidates for metropolises and sub metropolises today.

The CWEC meeting will take place at the central party office in Sanepa at 11 am, said NC Deputy General Secretary Badri Pandey.

The CWEC meeting that continued till late Friday night ended without a transient outcome.

The meeting failed to strike chords after leaders did not budge away from their respective stances on the candidates recommended.

According to an NC leader, the meeting finalized the name of Sirjana Singh for the post of mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

As for the candidate for Biratnagar mayor, the names of Nagesh Koirala, Bhim Parajuli, Deela Sangraula, and Amrit Aryal were discussed in the meeting.

Dr. Shekhar Koirala spoke in favor of Koirala while leader Krishna Sitoula stood with incumbent mayor Parajuli, according to an NC leader.

“Dr. Shekhar Koirala kept stance for Nagesh, Sitoula spoke in favor of Acharya while some leaders loyal to President Sher Bahadur Deuba stood in favor of Deela while the other took stance for Aryal,” said the leader.

Similarly, Dirghaman Shrestha is likely to be fielded for the post of deputy mayor in Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

The leader in the meeting could not reach consensus on the candidacy of Pokhara Metropolitan City.
