Rural municipality runs its own ambulance

BENI: The Dhaulagiri rural municipality of Myagdi is going to operate an ambulance. An ambulance has been procured to provide easy and accessible transportation for medical treatment to the residents of the geographically remote villages.

Operation of an ambulance has come into effect by purchasing an ambulance from India on customs exemption following due procedures, said Rural Municipality Chairperson Thamsara Pun. Earlier, the locals had been compelled to pay Rs 30,000 to transport the patients to Pokhara via Beni for treatment. Pun said that the ambulance is being operated to create a situation where the service will be available on time with minimum fee.

The rural municipality has stated that it has purchased an ambulance from Kathmandu for Rs. 1.2 million. The municipality had started the process of purchasing an ambulance two years ago.

It is said that the ambulance will be operated under the rural municipality by formulating working procedures and forming a committee through the executive meeting.
