Omicron variants found in 88% of COVID-19 infected in Nepal



KATHMANDU: The Omicron variant of COVID-19 is found to be replacing the Delta variant in Nepal.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Health and Population, Joint Spokesperson Sameer Kumar Adhikari informed that while sequencing 32 samples of genes in the National Public Health Laboratory, 28 omicron and four delta variants were found.

Omicron has been found in 88 percent of the recent cases of coronavirus infection in Nepal and the Delta is being replaced by Omicron in Nepal as well as globally, said the Joint Spokesperson.

He urged the people to adhere to the full standards of health as the transition rate of Omicron variant is fast. The Ministry of Health has also requested to stay in quarantine if any symptoms of coronavirus are seen.
