Three held in connection with murder of Bhutanese refugee



DAMAK: Jhapa police has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a Bhutanese refugee, Lal Bahadur Gurung.

Investigations have been launched following the arrest of the suspects from Ilam district, said the Area Police Office, Damak.

Police have not disclosed the identity of the arrestees for security reason, said police.

An unidentified group of people on Wednesday afternoon attacked Gurung, 46, from a Bhutanese refugee camp at Beldangi, Damak, Jhapa with khukuris leading to his death at the bridge over the Ratuwa river near the border of Jhapa and Ilam.

Shortly, after being informed, the police reached the incident site and rescued him.

The injured Gurung was taken to Lifeline Hospital in Damak.

Later, he was referred to B&C Hospital in Birtamod where he breathed his last the same evening, said the local people.

Personal disputes are suspected to be the reason behind the incident.
