MoU with UK opens new avenue of employment for Nepali healthcare professionals
The government has signed a bilateral agreement with the UK with a purpose to provide employment opportunities to Nepali youths in the country providing high remuneration.
Secretary at the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, Eaknarayan Aryal, and British Ambassador to Nepal, Nicola Pollitt in presence of Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Welfare, Sher Bahadur Kunwar, on Monday signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) to recruit Nepali healthcare professionals in the UK’s health sector.
The MoU has become a new milestone for the Nepal in terms of diversifying employment destinations for Nepali youth.
The MoU has established Government to Government (G2G) bilateral agreement on the fair and ethical recruitment of Nepali healthcare professionals to work in the UK’s health sector that will also encourage individuals seeking healthcare career and help strengthen the healthcare workforce in Nepal.
United States provides $15 million to Nepal for global food crisis
As part of the recently announced $2.76 billion in U.S. government funding to address the global food crisis, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide $15 million to Nepal to protect vulnerable populations from the escalating global crisis worsened by Russia’s unprovoked war in Ukraine.
President Joe Biden pledged these additional U.S. government food security resources during the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Germany, which represents more than half of the resources that G7 leaders committed to address global food security at the Summit.
In Nepal, the supplemental funding will help ensure that people affected by rising prices and food shortages have enough to eat.
Bangladeshi delegation calls on Energy Minister Bhusal
A visiting delegation of Bangladesh call on Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Pampha Bhusal at the latter’s office on Monday.
The delegation is here for the meeting of the Nepal-Bangladesh joint steering committee to be held in Kathmandu from Wednesday.
Dr Upreti appointed Executive Director of Foreign Employment Board
Dr Dwarika Upreti has been appointed as the Executive Director of Foreign Employment Board.
A meeting of the Council of Minister held on Monday appointed Upreti to the post.
Dr Upreti is a central member of Nepal Sports Federation Socialist as well as in-charge of Madhesh Province.
Earlier, Rajan Prasad Shrestha was the executive director of Foreign Employment Board.
Upreti has been appointed after Shrestha’s four-year tenure came to an end.
EC mulls cutting down election silence period to 24 hours
The Election Commission (EC) has begun preparations to reduce the election silence period.
The EC held discussions with political parties on reducing the election silence period to 24 hours from the existing 48 hours on Monday.
All the political parties represented in the federal and province assemblies participated in the discussions.
Federal Parliament endorses condolence motion on lawmaker Giri’s demise
The National Assembly (NA) has passed the condolence resolution on the demise of lawmaker Pradip Giri.
A session of the upper house today endorsed the motion on the passing away of House of Representatives (HoR) member Giri who breathed his last amidst the treatment for cancer at Mediciti Hospital, Lalitpur at 9:30 pm on Saturday.
The meeting observed a minute of silence over the death of HoR member, extending heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family.
The NA shall meet again at 1:00 pm on August 28.
Niharika Rajput breaks 17 days hunger strike following deal with govt
Niharika Rajput has broken her fast-onto-death following a three-point agreement with the government.
The agreement was reached between Chief District Officer, Kathmandu, Gobinda Prasad Rijal, and Rajput on Sunday night.
Rajput, who was on the hunger strike for the past 17 days, broke her strike in the presence of Minister for Law Gobinda Prasad Koirala ‘Bandi’.
Government advocate on behalf of the writ petitioner would as per request of Rajput demand a DNA test in the case that is sub-judice in the High Court, Janakpur, according to the agreement.
It maybe noted that Rajput, a single mother, has long been protesting demanding justice for her and her son. She has accused one Shivaraj Shrestha of Janakpur of raping her when she was 17 years old. She gave birth to a son after becoming pregnant resulting from the rape.
Ten Nepalis hurt in jeep accident in India
Ten Nepalis were injured when a jeep en route to Khatima from Banbasa, India, met with an accident on Monday.
India’s Banbasa market lies along the Nepal-India border in Kanchanpur.
According to the Gaddachauki-based Area Police Office, it was reported that the jeep with the Indian number plate met with the accident near the Chakarpur-based police station.
Radha Dayal and Jit Bahadur Dayal of Sukasal, Hem Ojha and Deepak Ojha of Kanchanpur, Chandra, Shanu, Baldev Singh, Khem Bahadur, Laxmi and Sharada are leant to have been wounded in the accident and among them, some are said to be critically hurt.
NEPSE declines by 7.24 points
Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) which declined by 7.72 points declined by 7.24 points to close at 2053.30 on Monday, the second trading day of the week.
When all sub-indices declined except mutual funds, the market declined by 0.35 percent today.
Due to the general decline in NEPSE, the trading volume also decreased on Monday.
Breakthrough in Super Nyadi’s tunnel construction
A breakthrough has been made in regard with the construction of a tunnel serving as the approach to the power house under the 42.60-megawatt Super Nyadi Hydropower Project based in Lamjung district.
The breakthrough was made few days ago.
The project being developed by the Siuri Nyadi Hydro Power Company is based in Myarsyangdi rural municipality-6.
According to project managing director Dinesh Gurung, a 387 meters long tunnel has been readied for the construction of a power house and so far the project reports the completion of 30 percent work.
