KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has decided not to allow vehicles with foreign number plates to be used in the upcoming federal and province-level elections to be held on November 20.
In the election code of conduct proposed by the Commission, EC mentioned that vehicles with foreign number plates will not be allowed in the election campaign.
The Commission has brought such a proposal targeting the district elections of Province 1, Madhesh, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, which are connected to the Indian border.
In the previous elections too, cars were rented cheaply from India and used in the elections in the border districts.
“A maximum of two two-wheeled, or three-wheeled or four-wheeled light vehicles powered by electric and mechanical power and maximum four horses in places where such vehicles do not operate will be allowed to operate,” the proposed code of conduct of EC said, “but such permission will not be given to vehicles with foreign number plates.”
Similarly, EC proposed not to allow the vehicles meant for election campaign for the political parties to transport voters.
