Central zoo puts on display Chimpanzee pair Chimpu and Champa

LALITPUR: Jawalakhel-based central zoo of Nepal, popularly known as Sadar Chidiyakhana, has added a pair of chimpanzees to the list of animals to be displayed from Friday.

The newly added chimpanzee pair are Chimpu and Chimpanzee brought to Nepal five years ago. According to the zoo officials, the chimpanzees were kept under internal care till they got used to the environment of the zoo.

After necessary care and internal management of the cage meant for the Chimpanzees, the pair of chimpanzees will be on display from today. The zoo has more than 900 animals of 113 species.

Over one million visitors come to enjoy the displayed animals at the Central Zoo annually. The main source of income has been the revenue collected from the entry ticket sales.

With an aim of generating public awareness and participation in nature and wildlife conservation, the Central Zoo has been successfully running a special membership-based program called the “Friends of Zoo” (FOZ) with a network of schools in Kathmandu Valley.
