Call for meaningful participation of Dalits in local level polls



KATHMANDU: Leadership of Dalit and the community’s meaningful participation has been demanded in the upcoming local level elections to insure the inclusive proportional representation and participation as guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, the Samata Foundation has asked the political parties to create environment for contesting the people’s representatives from the Dalit community in the senior posts by assessing their experiences and performance carried out in the past five years.

“Ticket to contest the local level polls should be given to the Dalit community as per the inclusive proportional representation principle on the basis of Dalit population,” according to the statement issued by the Samata Foundation.
