PM Deuba seeks UML support amid hurdles posed by coalition partners

UML not to support unless demands fulfilled

KATHMANDU: A meeting held between CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar Tuesday evening ended inconclusively with both sides conveying their stances to each other.

The main opposition leader Oli reached Baluwatar at around 6 pm to hold talks with PM Deuba this evening. UML Senior Vice Chair Ishwor Pokharel and Vice Chairman Bishnu Poudel joined late after the talks began.

In the meeting, PM Deuba sought UML support for ratifying Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) amidst nuisances posed by ruling alliance partners CPN-Maoist Center and CPN-Unified Socialist, said UML Vice Chairman Bishnu Rijal.

Reminding PM Deuba that the UML had been obstructing House proceedings for the past six months putting forth a charter of demands, the opposition leader asked the Prime Mininster to address UML demands first so that doors for parliamentary cooperation would open.

The UML is obstructing the House over the role of Speaker in split of UML and formation of the Unified Socialist.

The Nepali Congress has been holding extensive talks with the main opposition after ruling coalition partners turned unsupportive in the passage of the NC-government signed MCC agreement.
