Newly-elected MPs taking oath on Thursday

Newly-elected Members of Parliament (MPs) are taking oath of office and secrecy at the Baneswor-based Federal Parliament Building at 1:00 pm on Thursday.

All preparations for the oath-taking ceremony for newly elected members to the House of Representatives are almost over.

President Bhandari administers oath to senior MP Rana

President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly-elected senior member of the House of Representatives, Pashupati Shumsher Rana on Wednesday.

Rana, who became a proportional Member of Parliament from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), was sworn in at President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas.

Deuba elected Nepali Congress PP leader

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) president Sher Bahadur Deuba has been elected the leader of the NC parliamentary party.

Deuba was elected after defeated his competitor, party general secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, in the election held for the post of the party’s parliamentary party leader today.

A total 89 votes were cast in the election and of these votes, president Deuba garnered 64 and general secretary Thapa 25, the NC Parliamentary Party Leader and Working Committee Election Committee said.

Transport Management Dept asks all concerned to install embossed number plates by mid-March

The Department of Transport Management has issued directives to the concerned authorities to ensure that the government-owned vehicles have embossed registration number plates installed by mid-March 2022.

SC orders release of Charles Sobraj from jail

The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the release of Charles Sobraj, a notorious bikini-killer, who is currently serving a jail sentence in Kathmandu.

A bench of SC Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Til Prasad Shrestha issued an order to release him and arrange for his to return to his country within 15 days if he does not have to stay in prison in other cases.

Federal Parliament Secretariat calls all-party meeting on Thursday

The Federal Parliament Secretariat has call an all-party meeting under the chairmanship of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader Pashupati Shamsher Rana on Thursday.

Rana, who was sworn-in by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday, is the senior-most member of the House of Representatives.

SC issues short-term interim order directing status quo on Kathmandu-Terai Expressway

The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a short-term interim order on the Kathmandu-Terai Madhes Fast Track project and urged the authorities to retain the project in status quo till another verdict.

Hearing on the writ filed by Afcons Infrastructure Limited, India the SC asked to retain the status quo of the project.

SC refuses to issue stay order against Rabi Lamichhane’s oath taking

The Supreme Court (SC) has refused to issue a stay order to bar the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chairman Rabi Lamichhane from taking the oath as lawmaker.

The constitutional bench, consisting of Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki, and Justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Anand Mohan Bhattarai, Anil Kumar Sinha and Prakashman Singh Raut, refused to issue an interim order while hearing the writ petition questioning Lamichhane’s citizenship.

National conference of government attorneys to begin on December 23

The fourth national conference of the government attorneys is to kick start on December 23 in Kathmandu.

The three-day event shall delve into status of implementation of new laws including Criminal Code and the challenges surfaced in the implementation of those laws, the Office of the Attorney General said.

PM Deuba and Maoist Chair Prachanda visit hospital to take leader Nepal’s update

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ met with CPN-Unified Socialist Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal and took his health updates on Wednesday.

Leader Nepal was admitted to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) on Friday after he was diagnosed with pneumonia.
