Vote count halted in Bhaktapur 2 due to dispute over valid and invalid votes



KATHMANDU: The counting of votes has been stopped due to a dispute regarding valid and invalid votes in Bhaktapur constituency 2.

Election Officer Loknath Parajuli said the counting of votes started from 2:30 this morning after an all-party meeting was held at 10 pm last night.

Of the 91,911 voters in the constituency, 65,775 votes were cast on Sunday.

Dharlav Thapa of Nepali Congress, Mahesh Basnet of CPN UML, Dil Bahadur Tamang of Janata Samajwadi Party, Mohan KC of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Anuradha Thapa Magar of Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party are in the race in the constituency.

Thapa of Congress has taken the lead in the initial vote count with 2,230 votes, chased by UML candidate Basnet with 1,632 votes and RPP’s KC’s 123 votes.
