KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Pradeep Giri, who passed away last night, will be cremated today itself.
He was 75, and was undergoing treatment at the Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur for three weeks, was put on a ventilator from Thursday.
At the request of the family, he was taken off the ventilator on Friday.
Giri, who returned to Nepal after undergoing cancer treatment in Mumbai, India for a long time, was admitted to Medicity Hospital after contracting pneumonia.
Giri, a Nepali politician and member of House of Representatives (HoR) from the Nepali Congress was also a central committee member of the party.
Giri was elected to the House of Representatives in the 2017 elections to the HoR.
Born in Siraha district, he has been identified as a socialist thinker and intellectual leader in the country and abroad along with Congress politics.
He was a proportional member from the NC in the first and second Constituent Assembly elections.
He didn’t sign the Constitution of Nepal 2072 citing it was incomplete and did not fulfill the demand of all citizens.
Giri was also influenced by the works of B.R. Ambedkar, the constitution maker of India.
