PM Deuba urges WAPPP delegates to act as partner for Nepal’s journey to prosperity



KATHMANDU: A delegation of World Association of Public Private Partnerships Unit and Professionals (WAPPP) called on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar on Thursday.

A team led by WAPPP President Ziad-Alexandre Hayek paid a courtesy call on PM Deuba and held discussions on the ways to make government services more effective through effective implementation of infrastructures and other projects with business viability under the PPP model, the Office of the Investment Board of Nepal said.

On the occasion, the delegates also praised Nepal’s endeavor to fulfill the financing gaps and achieve economic advantages through the PPP by making provisions legal and institutions management on PPP and investment.

The delegation laid emphasis on building a competitive environment for investment facilitation under the PPP in Nepal, according to a press statement released by Board’s Spokesperson Amrit Lamsal.

Likewise, the members of the delegation underscored the need of capacity building of the institutions working in the areas of PPP adding that effective result could be ensured only through efficient harmony of different outlooks including finance, technical, legal, environmental, social, political, project, local and international aspects.

Lamsal said the WAPPP delegates have expressed their readiness to extend support to the Investment Board as the latter is one of the WAPPP members.

It is said the PM stated that clean and renewable energy, sustainable tourism, IT, safe urban infrastructure and other diverse areas are feasible for investment in Nepal and urged the WAPPP delegates to act as a partner in Nepal’s journey to prosperity by taking a message of an emerging destination for investment.

On the occasion, Chief Executive Officer of Board Sushil Bhatta shared about the Board’s activities and its priorities in the recent time.
