Special panel formed to probe ex-FinMin Sharma gets seven more days to submit report
A special committee formed to investigate former Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has received seven more days to complete its probe.
The House of Representatives had formed a special committee to investigate Sharma after criticism from all sides against Sharma for allowing unauthorized persons entry into the Ministry to selectively alter the tax rate during the preparation of the budget for the financial year 2022-23.
The special committee, which was initially given 10 days to submit its report, was unable to complete its probe and sought additional seven days to conclude the probe.
Lalitpur city police becomes Nepal’s 1st local body unit to use electric vehicles
Lalitpur Metropolitan City Police has become the first local body arm to use electric vehicles for patrolling in an effort to reduce the consumption of petroleum products.
During a ceremony held at the office of the Metropolis, Chiri Babu Maharjan, the re-elected mayor of Lalitpur City announced that his office would from now on only buy electric vehicles.
He also said that the newly set aim would help Nepal in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Prachanda and Dr. Baburam discuss forming Socialist Center
Chairman of Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has proposed the formation of a Socialist Center with former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.
Prachanda proposed the idea during a meeting between the two leaders in Lalitpur on Thursday.
Dr. Bhattarai has intensified his meetings with Prachanda and other Communist leaders after being expelled from the Janata Samajwadi Party last week.
Earlier, in a meeting held last Monday, Dr. Bhattarai had categorically stated that he would not return to the Maoist Center.
Janardhan Sharma refutes intrusion of unauthorized persons while making budget
Former Finance Minister Janardan Sharma claimed that there was no intrusion of unauthorized persons into the Ministry of Finance while making the budget.
The then finance minister Sharma, who reached Singh Darbar to furnish his statement to the parliamentary committee, claimed that there was no possibility of outsiders entering the finance ministry as reported by the media.
“It can be easily figured out who entered the Ministry or who left it,” he said.
Sharma said that a minister does not know how long the CCTV footage will be stored.
Thirty-nine rights organizations call for rectifying Transitional Justice Law Amendment Bill
Thirty-nine various human rights organizations have called for rectifying the ‘lapses’ in the Bill for the Amendment of the Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act, 2071 (2014) that the Government of Nepal registered in the parliament on July 15, 2022.
These human rights organizations have also expressed full solidarity with the ‘valid and serious concerns’ expressed by the victims’ community on the Bill.
Those selling, consuming alcohol have to carry stones in Doti
Local bodies of Doti district have taken their own decisions to curtail the sale and consumption of alcohol.
Ward no 7 of KI Singh rural municipality has decided that those selling and consuming alcohol would have to carry stones.
Ward Chairperson Dil Bahadur Balayer said a decision was taken which requires that those people consuming alcohol have to carry stones up to ward office for 15 days and those selling it for one month.
The decision was taken after holding meeting with businessmen running the alcohol business in the ward and the locals.
KMC not to collect garbage for a week
Garbage in Kathmandu will not be collected for a week due to the ongoing construction of the road leading to Bancharedanda in Nuwakot district.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has urged people to keep the gradable and non-gradable garbage separately in their houses for a week.
Issuing a notice, the KMC has said that as the construction of the road leading to Bancharedanda has resumed, vehicles carrying garbage cannot ply the road for a week.
Nepal sees 435 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours
Nepal recorded a total of 435 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Thursday.
Out of the confirmed cases, 317 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 118 through the Antigen method.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 3,569 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours. Of them, 1,667 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 1,902 through the Antigen method.
PM Deuba urges WAPPP delegates to act as partner for Nepal’s journey to prosperity
A delegation of World Association of Public Private Partnerships Unit and Professionals (WAPPP) called on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar on Thursday.
A team led by WAPPP President Ziad-Alexandre Hayek paid a courtesy call on PM Deuba and held discussions on the ways to make government services more effective through effective implementation of infrastructures and other projects with business viability under the PPP model, the Office of the Investment Board of Nepal said.
On the occasion, the delegates also praised Nepal’s endeavor to fulfill the financing gaps and achieve economic advantages through the PPP by making provisions legal and institutions management on PPP and investment.
