EC releases results of 694 local levels till 7:00 this evening, NC atop count

KATHMANDU: Of the total 753 local levels, the result of 694 local levels has come till 7:00 Saturday evening, the Election Commission (EC) said, adding that Nepali Congress (NC) is atop the count.

The EC said representatives in 294 municipalities and 447 rural municipalities have been elected, which is slightly more than 92 percent of the total local levels.

The counting of votes in metropolitan cities and sub-metropolitan cities that have comparatively higher number of votes is likely to take some more days. So far, Nepali Congress is leading the score with victory in 122 municipalities and 184 rural municipalities.

Police arrest rape-accused beauty pageant organizer

Rape-accused beauty pageant organizer Manoj Pandey has been arrested by police.

A team from Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested Pandey on Saturday.

A young woman revealed on Wednesday via social media that she had been raped at a hotel by one of the event organizers while participating in the Miss Global International pageant held eight years ago and continued the exploitation for long since then.

Youths demonstrate demanding justice for victim, action against perpetrator

Youths held a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Saturday demanding justice for the victim and action against the perpetrator of a rape incident recently made public through social media.

Maoist’s Renu leading by more than 5,700 votes in Bharatpur mayor race

CPN (Maoist Center)’s candidate Renu Dahal, representing the five-party alliance, has taken the lead with a margin of 5,733 votes for the post of Mayor in Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

A candidate of UCPN (Maoist Centre), Dahal has received 29,478 votes in the vote count that has taken place in 1 to 14 wards.  Vote counting in ward number 15 and 16 is underway.

NC wins Butwal sub-metropolis mayor

Nepali Congress has secured mayoral seat in Butwal Sub-metropolitan City.

Khel Raj Pandey, who contested in the May 13 local election from the five-party alliance, has been elected to the post.

However, preparations are underway to announce his victory and it would take some time, said chief returning officer Lekhnath Paudel.

He won the seat by a margin of more than 7,000 votes against his closest rival from the CPN (UML), Baburam Bhattarai, it has been said.
