UML to finalize mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates of metros and sub-metros on Saturday

KATHMANDU: The main opposition CPN-UML has decided to finalize mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates of metropolises and sub-metropolises only on Saturday.

A meeting of the UML Secretariat held at party Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s residence in Balkot on Thursday discussed the names recommended by the provinces, and the next Secretariat meeting would decide the final names, said Prithvi Subba Gurung, chief of UML publicity department.

He said Thursday’s discussion was centered on the recommendations made by all the seven provincial committees.

Gurung added only three names, Bijay Subedi from Bharatpur, Bijay Sarvargi from Birgunj and Harikrishna Byanjankar from Lalitpur, had been recommended so far.

Saying that names of 12 candidates had arrived from Pokhara, he clarified that the lawmakers in Gandaki and Lumbini would not be allowed to contest for the post of mayor or deputy mayor.

Gurung shared that the UML office would be inaugurated at Tulsilal Memorial Foundation tomorrow (on Friday) and the party’s manifesto would also be made public on the occasion.

Similarly, he added that UML would honor 17 communist leaders on Friday.
