To take part in Economic Cooperation and Cultural Exchange Program

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Vice Chairman Bishnu Poudel, leading a delegation, has flown to China today to take part in the Economic Cooperation and Cultural Exchange Program to be held in Kuomintang of China.

Leader Poudel is accompanied by Standing Committee member Kashinath Adhikari, Accounts Commission Chairman and former Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission Dr Pushpa Raj Kandel and Central Committee member and Karnali Province Assembly member Mina Singh Rakhal.

During the China visit, the delegation will meet with Chinese leaders, sources have said.

It is learnt that Song Tao, the head of the International Liaison Department of the China Communist Party, will also take part in the program.

Poudel’s China visit is viewed as important at a time when Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is making preparations to visit Nepal.

Earlier, Poudel was also the facilitator of the unification between the CPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN-UML.

There had been reports that China had played a role of a mediator in the unification between these two parties.

Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda has hinted at the alliance with the UML in the upcoming local elections. Poudel is holding talks with the top leaders of all parties for cooperation among the like-mined parties.

The delegation will return home on March 28.
