Maoist Center directs to prepare roster of candidates for local elections

KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist Center has instructed leaders and cadres to prepare a roster of candidates for upcoming local-level elections.

A circular issued by Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on February 16 asked party leaders and cadres to form an election-focused main mobilization committee for local level elections at every local level and a survey and analysis sub-committee under the main committee.

The main mobilization committee is to be led by a central member or a senior leader comprising organized members of the party, intellectuals, representatives of the party’s civic organizations, among others. In addition, volunteer mobilization and press and publicity sub-panels are also to be formed under the main mobilization committee.

The circular stated that the survey and analysis sub-committee would analyze expected vote count and results and prepare a list of honest, competent and popular candidates.

Furthermore, to formulate an election strategy, the meeting of the District Coordination Committee (DCC) should be concluded by February 24 and the meeting of the Municipal / Village Committee by February 27.

Likewise, ward committees will have to hold meetings by March 4.

The party also asked to hold public meetings and public relations events and chart out and implement an organizational strengthening and expansion plan, including a campaign to induct organized members.
