Revenue collection: Nepal collects  more than Rs. 33 billion extra than in previous fiscal year

BIRGUNJ: Imports and exports of various commodities to Nepal from Birgunj, Nepal’s main gateway and major trade gateway, have improved, with a positive impact on revenue collection.

After the improvement in the import and export of various commodities to Nepal through Birgunj, the revenue collected in the corresponding period of the current Fiscal Year has been 38 percent more than the revenue collected from mid- July to mid-January of the last Fiscal Year. .

The Birgunj Customs managed to collect revenue of Rs. 121.72 billion in the corresponding period of the current fiscal year. It was Rs 88.504 billion in the first seven months of the fiscal year 2020/21. Current fiscal year’s increase is is Rs 33.22 billion more than the revenue collected last year.

According to Birgunj Customs Office sources, the office managed to collect Rs. 5.37 billion more than the target of Rs 116.71 billion set for the first seven months of the fiscal year.

The revenue collected from vehicle imports was 23.21 percent and fuel imports 37.91 percent higher, the customs office source said.

Revenue collection has increased as domestic trade has gained momentum along with the reduction in the rate of corona infection.
