Civic poll: Political parties focus their engagement at local level



GALKOT: With the preparation for civic poll gaining momentum, the political parties have focused their engagement at local level.

Major competitive national parties, including Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) as well as other fringe parties, Rastriya Janamorcha, CPN (Unified Socialist), Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Janata Samajwadi party have intensified their mobilization and engagement at ward level.

The parties of federal ruling coalition have separately concentrated their activities at lower rung while main opposition, CPN-UML, is also organizing gathering at ward level in view of civc poll.

As shared, the big political parties which are in a bid to expand organizational base after completing their district conventions now have devolved their political engagement at local level.

NC Baglung President Jeet Sherchan shared that they have stepped up their campaign to construct party office, institute the office management fund of Rs five million.

“NC is engaging its election-focused campaign and activities at ward level”, he added.

CPN-UML has also reached out its activities at municipality level after completing its district convention and subsequent district committee meeting, shared UML district publicity department chief Chandra Ganesh Poudel.

The ruling coalition partners, NC, Maoist Center, CPN-US and Rastriya Janamorcha have also intensified their internal and intra-party meetings and consultations to effectively devolve ruling coalition collaboration at local level.

At the same time, they have also increased their village-level activities in view of civic poll individually.

Likewise, Maoist Center’s Baglung municipal committee secretary Raju Khadka said they are having meetings with ruling coalition partners at local level how to keep partnership in upcoming civic poll or explore other alternatives.

The party has informed that it has mobilized representatives to conduct gatherings at all wards and settlements of Baglung municipality by February 26.

Similarly, Rastriya Janamorcha has also zeroed in their activities at local level lately.

The district-based structures of the parties have started delegating responsibilities at municipal and ward levels as part of their civic-poll focused campaign in Baglung district.
