Ninth National Games concludes in Pokhara

The Ninth National Games, which was conducted in eight different districts of Gandaki province, has concluded Thursday evening.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba participated in the grand closing ceremony held at Pokhara Stadium this evening. Earlier, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun inaugurated the National Games on October 14.

Various cultural programs, tableaux, songs, music and dance were performed during the closing ceremony.

Meanwhile, Tribhuvan Army Club has been crowned the champion with 172 gold medals.

Tribhuvan Army Club won a total of 370 medals – 172 gold, 109 silver and 89 bronze.

Nepal APF Club finished in the second position winning 64 gold medals and Nepal Police Club clinched the third position winning 61 gold.

EC seeks clarification from Chairman Nepal

The Election Commission (EC) has sought a clarification within 24 hours from CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman and candidate of House of Representatives (HoR) from Rautahat Constituency No. 1 Madhav Kumar Nepal for his statement on assurance of free visa, free ticket.

The EC has said the clarification was sought in regard to the pledge made by candidate Nepal in an electoral campaign to the potential migrant workers promising them of foreign employment if he were elected.

Likewise, the EC has written to the District Police Office, Rautahat, to advance further actions over the same issue.

CEC Thapaliya urges media not to entertain materials tainting election

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has urged the media and social site users to refrain from disseminating content likely to taint the election and democracy.

CEC Thapaliya was addressing a virtual training for media persons organized by Meta, the parent company of Facebook, today.

The training is held at the request of the Election Commission in view of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Province Assembly elections being held on November 20.

DFC approves $100 million MSMEs financing loan to NMB Bank

U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has approved USD 100 million direct loan to NMB Bank, a largest of its kind for Nepali bank, to cater the financing need of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nepal.

NMB Bank – DFC partnership will assist the MSME ecosystem of Nepal in creating sustainability through entrepreneurship focusing women as priority, thus, generating employment and livelihood opportunities, stated a press release issued on Thursday.

NMB Bank is the first ever bank in Nepal to bring the international funding to the productive and priority sector of Nepal.

Govt warns of action against plastic flower, garland sellers

The government has said that action will be taken against those involved in selling plastic flowers, bouquets and garlands during Tihar and Chhath festivals.

The Ministry of Forests and Environment, issuing a notice, warned of taking action against those selling plastic flowers and garlands in Tihar and Chhath.

The government has banned the production, import, sale, distribution and storage of flowers and garlands made of plastic.

The Ministry has said those found selling and distributing such products will face a fine of up to Rs 100,000.

US Dollar touches all-time high

The US Dollar is continuously appreciating against the Nepali rupee of late.

As per the foreign currency exchange rate determined by Nepal Rastra Bank for today, the buying rate of one US Dollar is Rs 132.54 while the selling rate is Rs 133.14.

The buying rate of a unit of greenback was Rs 131.48 and the selling rate Rs 132.8 on Wednesday.

Masta village in shock after Tufandanda jeep mishap

Masta village of Bajhang has plunged into a deep shock after seven locals lost their lives in a jeep accident.

There was a fair at Sildevi Temple in district headquarters Chainpur on Wednesday. The jeep carrying locals of Masta rural municipality on the way back to home from the fair met with the accident on Wednesday.

The jeep had fallen some 200 metres off the road. As many as eight persons died in a the road accident at Masta-1, Tufandanda.

Gold price falls by Rs 100 in domestic market today

The price of gold has decreased by Rs 100 in the domestic market today (Thursday).

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 93,100 per tola today.

The price of the yellow metal was Rs 93,200 per tola on Wednesday.

NEPSE declines by 1.38 points to close at 1,844.14 

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declined by 1.38 points to close at 1,844.14 points on Thursday.

The index, which has been bearish throughout the week, fell marginally on the last trading day of the week. However, the Sensitive Index closed green today with the index increasing by 0.09 points.

A total of 1,546,857 units of shares of 221 companies traded via 17,296 transactions, resulting in a turnover of Rs 507 million.
