CHITWAN: As many as 205 wild animals, including 37 one-horned rhinos and six tigers have died in Chitwan National Park (CNP) in the fiscal year 2078/079.

According to the CNP, 104 wild animals died due to natural causes (old age, disease, tiger attack) in the last one year.

Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, Information Officer at the CNP, informed that 59 animals died due to dog attacks, 16 due to netting, 11 due to road accidents, and 2 due to poaching.

Apart from this, the reason for the death of 12 wild animals has not been ascertained.

Likewise, one rhinoceros died after getting stuck in a ditch dug to drain the road under construction at Tikauli on the East-West highway.

Of the 37 rhinos that died last year, 2 were killed by poachers, According to Tiwari.

A 28-year-old female rhinoceros died due to poaching in the Ghangar area and an unknown gender and age.

Among those rhinos, 18 are males, 14 are females and 5 are of unknown sex.

Likewise, six rhinos have died due to tiger attacks. All rhinos killed by tiger attacks are under 5 years of age.

An additional 7 rhinos died of other causes under the age of five.

As many as 16 old rhinos over 20 years old died in the last one year.
