Ponds created to facilitate drinking water for wildlife

MYAGDI: Ponds have been constructed in community forests of Myagdi to facilitate drinking water for wildlife.

The Division Forest Office has constructed wildlife-focused drinking water ponds in ten community forests of the district in the current fiscal year 2021-22.

In a bid to reduce human-wildlife conflict, the ponds were built through community forestry users’ groups, informed Assistant Forest Officer Nar Bahadur Chhetri.

“Ponds have been constructed at forests to check wildlife intrusion into human settlement in search for drinking water and food”, he said, adding, “It would help manage human-wildlife conflict.

Wildlife may not enter into human settlement when water and food are available in their habitat, he further said.

According to Assistant Forest Officer Chhetri, 10 out of 17 community forests submitting proposals at the district forest office have completed the tasks.

Rs 100,000 each was allocated for the construction of a pond in the forest, Chhetri said.
