KATHMANDU: United States Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights and Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues Uzra Zeya arrived in Kathmandu on Friday.

US Under Secretary Zeya landed in Kathmandu at around 3 pm today after completing the first leg of her six days India-Nepal visit that began on Tuesday.

She was welcomed at Tribhuvan Internationa Airport by officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and US embassy officials, including Ambassador Randy Berry.

Her visit comes as Nepal and the US are celebrating 75 years of establishment of diplomatic ties.

She would discuss partnering with Nepal and India during this Year of Action for the Summit for Democracy.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Under Secretary Zeya is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka and other senior officials in Nepal.

Under Secretary Zeya will also hold talks with Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand and Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi during her three days visit.

The Department of State earlier said Under Secretary’s six-day official visit to India and Nepal (May 17-22) would deepen cooperation on human rights and democratic governance goals, and to advance humanitarian priorities.
