31,416 out of 35,221 local representatives elected so far



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has stated that 31,416 people’s representatives have been elected in the local level elections so far.

The Election Commission had held elections at all 753 local levels of the country on May 13 in a single phase.

According to EC, as many as 145,011 candidates had contested for 35,221 posts.

Out of the 753 local levels, counting of votes has been completed in 638 local levels so far.

A total of 31,416 people’s representatives have been elected for the posts of mayor, deputy mayor, rural municipality chairperson, vice-chairperson, ward chair and four members in each ward.

The result of only 3,805 posts is being awaited as vote count is underway in those places.

The Nepali Congress has the largest number of elected representatives followed by the CPN-UML, the CPN (Maoist Center) and the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) respectively.

According to EC, 12,345 candidates of the NC have won various posts — which is 39.29 percent of the total elected representatives.

Also, the UML has 33.76 percent wins with 10,609 candidates declared victorious.

The Maoist Center has secured 15.13 percent victory of the total elected representatives with 4,754 candidates claiming various posts.

The JSP so far has got 1,220 candidates elected and claims a share of 3.88 percent among the total of winning candidates.

Similarly, 14 candidates of the CPN (Unified Socialist) have emerged victorious covering 0.044 percent of the winning candidates.

The EC said 2,489 candidates who are either independents or represent other smaller parties have clinched various posts.

Out of the total winning candidates, wins of small parties and independent candidates make 7.92 percent of the total winning candidates.
