NC leader Rana Deuba being fielded as PR candidate in Nov 20 elections

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has prepared to nominate party’s Central Committee member Arzu Rana Deuba as proportional representative (PR) candidate in the House of Representatives.

Though leader Rana Deuba’s name had been recommended as a candidate for the House of Representatives from five different places across the country, including Kailali-5, the party has prepared to make her a PR candidate.

Earlier in 2017 elections, Rana Deuba contested the first-past-the-post election from Kailali-5 and faced defeat from UML’s Naradamuni Rana.

The Election Commission has given Sunday and Monday for submission of the closed list of candidates under PR system. Today is the last day for submission of the closed list.

A meeting of the NC Central Parliamentary Committee was underway Monday afternoon to finalize the closed list of PR candidates.

According to one NC office bearer, two joint general secretaries Farmullah Mansoor and Jeevan Pariyar along with Rana Deuba are also being fielded as PR candidates.

Similarly, former NC vice-presidents Bimalendra Nidhi and Gopalman Shrestha are also being included in the closed list of PR candidates.

According to the law, 40 percent of the members of the House of Representatives and the Provincial Assemblies are to be elected through the PR system.

Accordingly, 110 out of 275 members of the House of Representatives and 220 members in all the seven Provincial Assemblies are set to be elected under PR system.

The parties are going to register the closed list of candidates in the Election Commission on behalf of their respective parties by today.
