CBI arrests five persons who sold land forging death certificate of owner residing abroad



KATHMANDU: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of Nepal Police has arrested five people for selling a piece of Kathmandu land by forging death certificate of the owner living abroad.

At a press conference in Kathmandu on Sunday, the CBI made public Mahabir Chand, Ganesh Bahadur Khanal, Baburam Karki, Prem Prasad Khanal and Dasi Maya Shrestha – who were arrested on the charge of carrying out real estate transactions by forging fake documents.

According to CBI Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Shyam Kumar Mahato, investigation revealed that they had sold 11 ana land located at Maitrinagar in Kirtipur Municipality-2, which belonged to Shantadevi Lohani, who has been residing in Japan since 2055 BS.

The arrested had forged Shantadevi’s death certificate, presented someone else as the owner’s daughter and had even drafted a marriage certificate to sale the land.

According to Mahatto, after Shantadevi returned to Nepal after a long time and tried to digitilize her land ownership document she found that he land had already been sold. After that she contact the police.

Arrested Khanal was the mastermind of the crime, police said.

Further investigation into the arrested is underway.
