NHRC urges parties to incorporate human rights issues in election manifestos



KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged all parties to include human rights issues in the election manifestos/commitment letters prepared for the local level elections.

NHRC Spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel, issuing a statement on Tuesday, urged the political parties to visibly include human rights issues in their manifestos for the local elections slated on May 13.

“NHRC makes a special request to all political parties to accord high importance and priority to issues of human rights in the election manifestos/commitment letters in accordance with Nepal’s constitution, Political Parties Act, NHRC recommendations and Nepal’s international commitment for the respect, protection and promotion of human rights,” read the statement.
