NC forms 3-member committee to hold PP leader election

The Nepali Congress (NC) has formed a 3-member election committee to select the leader of the parliamentary party (PP).

The meeting of the central performance committee held at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur on Sunday formed an election committee under the coordination of Joint General Secretary Bhishmaraj Angdambe.

Angdambe-led committee comprises Prakash Snehi and Pushpa Bhusal as members. The committee will conduct the PP leader’s election.

President Bhandari calls upon parties to recommend PM by December 25

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has called upon the parties to recommend a name for the Prime Minister within 7 days from Sunday.

According to a source in the  President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, the President called for the name of the Prime Minister to be recommended as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution.

Secretary General of Federal Parliament reponds to SC on suspended CJ Rana’s case

Secretary General of the Federal Parliament Bharatraj Gautam has sent a written reply to the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court defending his move to invalidate the impeachment motion filed against suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.

The full court and constitutional bench of the Supreme Court had asked Gautam to respond justifying the reason for giving the letter to Rana.

Lawmakers elected to HoR through PR system election get certificates

The Election Commission has presented certificates to the newly-elected lawmakers elected to the House of Representatives (HoR) through the proportional representation (PR) system of election.

Chief Election Officer of the PR election system and EC secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi handed the certificates to the lawmakers amid a programme held at the Election Commission today.

President appoints ambassador

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed Ms Kanta Rijal, the resident ambassador of Nepal to Israel, to the post of non-resident ambassador to Cyprus.

The President made this appointment in accordance with Article 282 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal, the Office of the President stated in a communiqué today.

NEPSE falls by 27.54 points on Sunday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has fallen by double digits on Sunday, the first trading day of the week

The NEPSE dropped by 27.54 points to shrink at 1855.06 points.

The sensitive index fell by 5.22 points to 362.82 points today.

Cold wave felt in western Tarai

A cold wave has started in western Tarai districts, including in Bardia, with the plummeting temperature.

Dense fog occurs in the morning further exacerbating the cold. Normal life has been affected due to the cold wave.

Priest Vaishnav arrested on forgery charge

The Mahottari police arrested the priest of Matihani Guthi in Mahottari district, Jagannath Das Vaishnav on a fraud charge.

He has been accused of withdrawing Rs 7 million from Mega Bank by forging the signature of assistant chief district officer of the district.
