LSP urges timely certification of Citizenship Bill

KATHMANDU: The Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) has urged for timely authentication of the Citizenship Bill within the stipulated timeframe.

The party demanded a guarantee of citizens’ rights by authenticating the Bill, according to a statement.

The party would be forced to resort to the struggle for safeguarding nationality, democracy, human rights, and people’s rights if the Bill was not certified until 20 September, the meeting chaired by party chairperson Mahantha Thakur warned.

It may be noted that the Bill that was returned by President Bidya Devi Bhandari for reconsideration, and again passed by both the Houses of the federal Parliament has reached the Office of the President for authentication.

Stating that the government’s decision to scrap cases related to Tikapur incident and release arrestees including Resham Chaudhary was positive, he urged it to do away with the Mahottari incident as well.
