NEA is going bankrupt: Yogesh Bhattarai

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai has said warned that the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is on the verge of bankruptcy due to the government’s negligence.

Taking part in the discussion on the Principles and Priorities of the Appropriation Bill for the Fiscal Year (excluding the tax proposal) 2022/23 in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, he said that NEA is going bankrupt as its importing electricity at high rates from India and selling at cheap rates.

“Even now, we are buying and importing expensive electricity from friendly countries. When we buy expensive electricity and sell it cheaply, NEA is sure to go bankrupt,” he said, adding, “Besides, there is no concrete plan from the government side to address the issue.”

UML leader Bhattarai accused the government of taking action against the governor while investigating the decline in remittances.
