Finance Ministry gives its nod to adding three more AIGs in Nepal Police

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance has approved the proposal to add three more Additional Inspector Generals (AIGs) to the Nepal Police.

It is learnt that Finance Minister Janardan Sharma agreed to the proposal on the condition that Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Rabindra Dhanuk would be one of the AIGs.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had recently sent the proposal, including Organization Management and Survey (O&M), to add three AIGs in Nepal Police to the Ministry of Finance.

DIGs Dhiraj Pratap Singh, Uttam Raj Subedi and Rabindra Dhanuk have been recommended for promotion to AIGs.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Ishwar Babu Karki, who is batch mate of current Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shailesh Thapa Chhetri, has dropped out of the promotion race.

DIG Dhanuk is currently stationed at Works Department, Subedi at Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, and Singh in Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).

The proposal approved by the Finance Ministry has returned to the Home Ministry. Now, the Home Ministry will take the proposal to the Council of Ministers.

Decisions of promotions and transfer have been on hold as the Election Commission enforced the election code for the National Assembly elections till January 26. The proposal is likely to be taken to the Council of Ministers after the election code deactivates.

There are currently five AIGs in Nepal Police. There will be eight AIGs if three more posts are added. AIGs are deployed at Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, Crime Investigation Department, Work Department, Administration Department and National Police Training Institute, Maharajgunj.
