Nine dead, seven missing in Achham landslide

ACHHAM: Nine people have died and seven people have gone missing in landslides in Achham.

The incident took place after two houses were buried by landslides in different municipalities of the district last night.

In Turmakhand Rural Municipality, Achham Acting Chief District Officer Dipesh Rijal said that the bodies of two of the missing persons have been found and the search for the remaining seven persons is underway.

Due to the continuous rain, the communication service of the area has also been disrupted. Similarly, seven people died when their house was buried by a landslide in Kamalbazar municipality. The bodies of all seven people from Thantikhand of Kamalbazar municipality-6 have been recovered.

Similarly, three people were injured when a house was damaged by landslide in Dhakari Rural Municipality. Following the landslides in various places of Achham, the local administration and police teams have been engaged in rescue work since this morning.

Chief of District Police Office, Achham Deputy Superintendent of Police Narayan Dangi, said that police teams have been mobilized as reports have been received of houses being damaged and buried by landslides in various places of the district.
