KATHMANDU: Parliamentarians taking part in Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) have demanded earliest rescue and relief operation for disaster victims.
Yogesh Bhattarai drew the attention of the government towards landslide at Kheang of ward no 7 of Sirijunga rural municipality in Taplejung district that occurred on June 16 and demanded with the government to rescue the victims and provide them with relief packages.
Seeking special time in HoR, Bhattarai shared that Tulasa Adhikari and Yasoda Adhikari died when landslide debris swept away their houses. “Bishnu Adhikari was airlifted to safety today morning and is currently undergoing treatment at Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar.”
He demanded the government to bear expenses for medical treatment of the injured ones in the incident. He also demanded for necessary support from government for the families of those killed in natural disasters to perform final rites.
Appraising the House about obstruction of the obstruction of electricity, telephone and transportation in that locality due to landslide, he called for positive intervention from the government to resume the services.
Similarly, Iqbal Miya appealed the government to form a high-level investigation commission to find out murderer of CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Chitra Bahadur Chettri in Bara district. He also demanded action against the culprit. He informed that 14 suspected people were arrested in connection to the alleged murder of 38-year-old Chettri and investigation was underway.
Prem Suwal demanded the government to provide second and third installment of grant to quake-survivors for rebuilding the quake-damaged houses. He also demanded compensation for those living along Hanumante River Bank and affected by inundation.
Likewise, Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel voiced his concern over the growing cases of violence against women in the country despite the constitutional and legal provision against gender-based discrimination and violence against women.
Meanwhile, Gopal Bahadur Bom lamented that the issue raised by parliamentarians in the zero hour in the HoR meetings were not addressed. He bemoaned that the issues he had been floating in the parliament for the past four years about his district were not heeded.
