NC wins local elections in Palpa’s Rampur municipality



PALPA: The Nepali Congress (NC) has won the posts of mayor and deputy-mayor in Rampur municipality of Palpa.

According to the final results of the May 13 local elections, Raman Bahadur Thapa obtained 10,456 votes against 10,083 by his nearest competitor from the CPN (UML), Shiba Aryal.

Another candidate for the mayor, Rajendra Dhakal of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, got 168.

Similarly, Bal Kumari Thapa has been elected on the post of deputy-mayor with 10,307 ballots while her closest rival Durga Devi Rana from the UML received 10,250 followed by 157 of Gaytari Neupane of Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

The municipality consists of 10 wards and the NC has emerged victorious at wards 1,2,4,5,6,7 and 9 and the UML at the remaining three wards 3, 8 and 10.
