Ruling parties’ poll preparation and monitoring panel discusses seat-sharing at local level

KATHMANDU: The election preparation and monitoring committee of the ruling coalition has discussed seat-sharing at the local level among partners in the upcoming polls.

After the meeting held in Baluwatar on Sunday, Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that discussions were held regarding suitable modalities to field common candidates at the local levels. There are 753 local levels in the country.

“We already agreed in principle to head to the local elections together. We have discussed ways to make the electoral coordination systematic. Specifically, fielding of specific candidate at a particular local level and the strategy to get the candidate elected was discussed,” he said. He added that discussion on the issue was not over yet and would continue the next day as well.

The coalition has said it would finalize the distribution of six metropolitan cities and 11 sub-metropolitan cities among the partners by Monday.

The election preparation and monitoring committee will submit a report to top leaders of the alliance.

Based on the report received, the leaders of the coalition will finalize allocation of metropolis and sub-metropolis on Monday.
