Committee to be formed to resolve problems facing landless squatters on Bagmati River bank

KATHMANDU: The High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization is forming a committee to resolve the problems facing the landless squatters dwelling at Thapathali and Sinamangal on the Bagmati River bank.

Information Officer at the High-Powered Committee Kamal Aryal said that a discussion was held with representatives of landless squatters which reached the understanding to form a committee to remove the haphazard settlements on the river bank.

A representative of the landless squatters and relevant experts would be included in the committee.

Although the government had constructed a building at Ichangunarayan five years ago to manage the landless squatters of the Bagmati River bank, it has not been able to shift them.

The High-Powered Committee had also issued a notice in the third week of January, asking the landless dwellers to remove the infrastructures constructed illegally from Guheshwori to Thapathali Bridge without taking within a week, but in vain.

Thirteen physical infrastructures have been constructed in the area without taking permission of the High-Powered Committee, Aryal added.
