Supreme Court orders to halt installation of new idols in Kasthamandap

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued an order to stop the installation of new idols in the Kasthamandap.

A single bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada on Monday issued an interim order suspending the installation of the new idol at the site. The order comes in response to a writ petition filed by Advocate Sanjay Adhikari, seeking an interim order to stop the installation of new idols in the Kasthamandap.

In the writ petition, Adhikari had argued the installation of new idols had violated Ancient Memorial Protection Act, religious sentiment, international law on the protection of heritage, and fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

It may be noted that the Kasthamandap, brought to the ground by the 2015 earthquake, was recently rebuilt as per its original architecture.
