EC seeks clarification from Kageshwari Manohara Mayor Karki



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has sought clarification from Upendra Karki, Mayor of Kageshwari Manohara Municipality of Kathmandu.

The EC asked Karki to clarify why he had asked for votes for a candidate against the code of conduct.

Karki is accused of being involved in campaigning for the candidate of the ruling coalition in Kathmandu Constituency-2.

The EC has asked him to give an explanation within 24 hours.

Section 5 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2079, under the conduct to be observed by the Government of Nepal, Provincial Government, Ministers and Local Executives and their officials, in Clause (a) shall not be involved in campaigning or campaigning for or against any political party or candidate, but the local executive officials themselves.
