Candidates making final efforts to woo voters

TEHRATHUM: Less than a week away from the federal and provincial elections, the candidates of the House of Representatives (HoR) and provincial assembly are making their final efforts to convince the voters.

The candidates have visited the voters’ farmlands, doorsteps and public spaces wherever there are gatherings.

As the farmers are busy harvesting paddy, so are the candidates seeking voters for the November 20 elections.

But, the farmers are more worried about harvesting paddy instead of the election fervor.

Srijana Basnet, a local from Okhre village in Chhathar Rural Municipality-5, said the leaders visited her seeking voters but she was busy harvesting paddy and millet.

Most of the candidates have pledged to troubleshoot the issues of voters if they won the elections.

However, public participation is not like that of the earlier elections despite candidates’ aggressive publicity campaigns and home visits.

There is a single constituency in HoR and two in the provincial assembly in Tehrathum district.

Candidate of Nepali Congress for HoR Sita Gurung has sought votes while promising development and prosperity while CPN (UML) candidate Bijay Subba has made the district’s development and facilitating the lawmaking process for citizens’ rights his election agendas.

In the past elections, the CPN (UML) had won all seats of the HoR and provincial assembly in the Tehrathum district but the left-democratic alliance is a stumbling block for the UML’s win in this election.

According to the District Election Office, a total of 10 candidates including an independent candidate are vying for the HoR elections where the number of voters is almost 72,000.
