SC order stays EC decision to scrap alliance candidate Gurung’s candidacy in Rupandehi 2

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a temporary interim order for not implementing the election officer’s decision to scrap the candidacy of ruling alliance candidate Raju Gurung in Rupandehi-2.

A single bench of Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha on Sunday issued the provisional order after hearing the writ petition filed by Gurung on October 13.

Meanwhile, the court has summoned both petitioner and defendants for discussion on October 18.

Gurung’s candidacy was rescinded by the Election Officer Udbir Nepali on October 12 citing his conviction in a banking offense case.

Petitioner Gurung, affiliated to CPN Unified Socialist Party, a partner of the ruling alliance, filed a writ against the Election officer’s decision.

The court has also sought written clarifications from defendants for scrapping Gurung’s candidacy.
