SC hearing on Raju Gurung’s candidacy related writ today

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is hearing on the writ petition filed against Election Commission’s decision to revoke Raju Gurung’s candidacy nomination from Rupandehi-2.

Earlier, the hearing scheduled for Friday was removed from the hearing list at the petitioner’s request.

Raju Gurung, the leader of the CPN-Unified Socialist Party, who is the common candidate of the ruling coalition, was rejected by the Election Officer Udveer Nepali arguing he was blacklisted by the Credit Information Bureau of Nepal (CIBN).

However, Gurung filed a petition at the apex court on Thursday demanding that his candidacy should be maintained as he was not blacklisted by CIBN but only the organization in which he was a shareholder.

It is mentioned in the election guidelines that a blacklisted person cannot be a candidate.

However, Gurung filed a writ petition saying he was not in the blacklist and that the guidelines were also in conflict with the law. He went to the court demanding SC to annul the election officer’s order and retain his candidature.
