Election Commission registers 84 parties for general elections



KATHMANDU: As many as 84 political parties have registered themselves with the Election Commission to contest in the federal and provincial elections slated for November 20.

According to the Election Commission, the number includes four groups of two or more political parties which are contesting the election with a joint election symbol.

The EC has asked political parties interested to participate in the federal and provincial elections to register with it between August 7 and 16.

As per Article 271 of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, parties must register or renew their registration before the election.

Of the 116 political parties registered with the commission, only 84 will be vying in the upcoming election.

The government has decided to hold federal and provincial elections in a single phase on November 20.
