RSS journalist Acharya gets allegedly beaten up by NEA employees



CHITWAN: Journalist Krishna Acharya, who works for Rastriya Samachar Samiti, has been allegedly thrashed by employees of the Bharatpur distribution center, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) over a news report.

Acharya, RSS’s Chitwan correspondent, had reached the office of NEA, Bharatpur to cover news acting on a tip off that a drinks reception was being organized on the premises of the NEA office when the incident took place, it has been said.

Acharya however escaped the attack by running off. He has sustained injuries all over the body parts and the clothes that he wore during the incident were torn.

NEA employees also seized two mobile phones belonging to him. Meanwhile, the district police office has arrested one of the attackers on Friday night in connection with the incident, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Narahari Adhikari.

Acharya is also publisher of local Narayani online and Samachar Patra and vice chairperson of the Press Chautari Nepal, Chitwan.

Meanwhile, various media-related organizations including the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Chitwan have condemned the incident.
