President and PM extend best wishes on 2566th Buddha Jayanti



KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed her best wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali brothers and sisters at home and abroad on the occasion of the 2566th birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha, the propounder of Buddhist philosophy and the pioneer of the world peace.

In her message, the President has said it was a matter of pride for all of us that Nepal is the birthplace of the great Gautam Buddha.

The President has believed that if we can imbibe the teachings and guidelines of the apostle of peace, Gautam Buddha, we will be able to consolidate our national unity and help promote world peace by enhancing the spirit of mutual goodwill, tolerance, and brotherhood among cultural and social diversity.

Likewise, the President has stated that the concerned side should pay heed to the appropriate development and conservation of cultural and archeological sites related to the Buddhist religion spread across the country.

Similarly, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has extended greetings on the occasion of the 2566th Buddha Purnima today. Issuing a message of best wishes on 2566th Buddha Jayanti today, PM Deuba wished world peace, co-existence, tolerance, brotherhood, and fraternity in the world.

PM Deuba expressed his best wishes to all and wished that Buddha Purnima would inspire all to promote unity and mutual respect in the entire human community.

The PM said, “I wish happiness, peace, and progress to all Nepalis and Buddhist communities at home and abroad on the birthday of Lord Buddha, the apostle of peace, non-violence, and compassion.”

The full moon day of Nepali month Baisakh coincides with the day when Lord Buddha was born, attained enlightenment, and mahaparinirvan (passing away) took place, Deuba said in the message, adding that this day has been inspiring to move towards peace, non-violence, compassion, goodwill, and self-realization since ancient time.
“Gautam Buddha is a luminary. His teachings and sermons are still relevant, useful, and enduring for humans even today,” the head of the government asserted in the message.
