TIA to operate 24 hours from May 29

KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) is set to operate for 24 hours from May 29.

The regulatory body Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is making preparations to run the TIA for 24 hours to address the increasing air traffic system that went up after the COVID-19 subsided.

According to the CAAN, the Gautam Buddha International Airport and the under construction Pokhara Regional International Airport  including the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), will now operate 24 hours a day.

CAAN Director General Engineer Pradeep Adhikari informed that TIA has been operating 24 hours a day since the Republic Day on May 29.

“The government has decided to operate the TIA  24 hours a day to manage the increased air pressure after the coronavirus epidemic subsided,” said DG Adhikari.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale has shown special interest and activism in the country’s aviation sector. As a result, the CAAN has stated that it is working for the infrastructure development and service strengthening of airports across the country, including three international airports.

“NEA has made the plan public by doing internal homework as per the instructions of Tourism Minister Ale in the board meetings,” said Director General Adhikari while talking to media persons.

The flight pressure has increased at international airports and domestic airports after the coronavirus subsided. Similarly, preparations are underway to operate for 18 hours a day.
