Education Minister Poudel urges not to enforce strike in university

KATHMANDU: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Poudel has urged the professors to find a solution to the problem without going on strike in the universities.

Talking to officials of the Nepal University Teachers Association at the ministry in Singha Durbar today, Minister Poudel said that it was wrong to go on strike at the university over petty issues.

He said that uniformity would be maintained as the service commissions of all the universities were of the same nature.

Stating that university representatives come to the ministry only when there is a problem, Minister Poudel said that a clear outline of regulatory mechanism and autonomy should be prepared.

During the discussion, Buddha Bahadur Thapa, on behalf of the association, urged to take initiative for the restoration of the dignity of professors as it was decided in the meeting of the Council of Ministers in 2074 BS.

The part-time professors and various student organizations have been padlocking the Tribhuvan University for a long time demanding that the salary of the professors should be made of SAARC level, pension of the professors of TU and Nepal Sanskrit University be provided, and provision be made of different health services for the professors and university staffers.
